24 MAN TEAM

The "24-Man Team" is a club versus club match play tournament conducted by the Minnesota Public Golf Association.  The matches are played at scratch - no handicaps are involved.  Each club sends 24 players to each match.  The 24 players are paired into 12 two-man teams.  Each two-man team plays a match play match against a two-man team from the other club.  Each match is worth 3 points. one for each nine and one for the entire 18. The matches are conducted on the first Sunday of each month.

The Fox Hollow Men's Club is entered in this competition.  Check the "News" section below for information from team Captain Joe Sicora.  Click Here to see the tournament bracket. (pdf)

24/16-MAN TEAM NEWS

June 11, 2010
Well we got an old fashioned spanking today. we are down 30 - 6 to Keller. Congrats to all who earned any points. 6 groups were shut out out completely. Next round is Aug 1 at Fox. Although winning the overall match is extremely unlikely we need to defend home territory and see if we can at least beat them at home. Obviously we need all of our best golfers to play. I will not be offended if we have such a good turnout that I am not on the team. Please let me know if you are available on Aug 1. I will be pursuing non responders after handicaps come out on July 15th.

This feels kind of like being the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East. We are in the major leagues but it may not look like it sometimes.

June 5, 2010
Our 24 man team defeated Bunker Hills today 21.5 to 14.5 to move on to the next round, likely against Keller on July 11.

Our 16 man team gave a valiant effort playing against Sundance's best golfers and only lost 13.5 to 10.5. Next round is july 11 at Pebble creek.

Likely cut for 24 man team will be about an index of 4.0. Anyone interested in playing  on either team please let me know.  We always want to field our best teams possible.

May 2, 2010
Our 24 man team is down 2 points after playing at Bunker today 19-17. We will play them at home on june 6 with a realistic chance to move on to the 2nd round.

The 16 man team was beaten by Columbia 18-6 at Fox hollow today. Next match is June 6 at Sundance.

Both teams will benefit by greater participation by our lower handicap golfers. anyone with a handicap less than 8 and any interest in playing please contact.
Joe Sicora.

24/16 Man Team

We have 2 teams competing this year in the MPGA team match play events. Our 24 man team moved up to class A and is competing at Bunker Hills on May 2. We will be home on June 6. We will only move on if we win that match.

Our 16 man team will be competing in the Northwest division of the 16 man team league. The 16 man team is guaranteed to compete thru the summer in a round robin format. First match is at home on May 2 against Columbia.

The format is the same in both leagues, 2 man better ball with no handicaps. 1 point awarded for the front nine, 1 for the back 9 and 1 for the 18.  We will attempt to field the best team possible in the 24 man team by taking the lowest handicap players available. The 16 man team will consist roughly of the next best players with a higher priority on people I know are interested in playing. The one caveat is that once someone has competed on this years 24 man team they will not be eligible to play for the 16 man team in subsequent events during this season. Handicap index for 24 man team has typically gone up to about 4 or 5 in past years. If you have any interest in playing on either team please contact Joe Sicora. for more information please see the MPGA website

Once again, thanks to everyone who played today. We got beat pretty handily 28-8 at Wapicada today, although it sounds like most matches were closer than that.  Disappointing day but a fairly successful season. We were runner-up in class A and will likely stay in the same division next year. I hope everyone will be back next year. We are planning to have a 2nd 16 man team in class B or C next year, so there will be more opportunities to develop a larger group of players with experience.  If you haven't signed up for the combo on October 3, do it. It will be a fun event with dinner after.

Thanks to all who played today.  We are only down 4 to Wapicada which may not sound great but they have blitzed thru the field this year.   And if the team of Sicora/Dodd had earned their usual 3 points we would be ahead. I would like to especially commend the team of Christopherson/K. Walker for getting 2.5 pts.   Also of note is Cargill/R. Walker getting 2.5 against perhaps the best golfer in the state. The most disappointing was Kostelecky/Manion only getting 2.5 pts with a best ball 64. Only one skin all day to Fairchild/Gomilak with a birdie on 9.  Next round is at Wapicada on 9/27. Please arrange your schedules as we have a serious chance to beat these guys.

Aug 16, 2009
We will be at home on Aug 30 and at Wapicada on 9/27. First time in the finals with the current format.  We need good turnout to win our division.  If you are a regular and didn't get an e-mail from me, please contact me.

We have moved in to the finals. we tied Chaska on their course today and after beating them by 2 last month we are in the finals against Wapicada. Dates for next round are a little uncertain at this point because of some conflicts. I will be in touch and things should be settled within the next few days. Thanks to all who played today.

July 12, 2009
Well we squeaked out a 19 -17 lead over Chaska today. Quite the disaster to start with. Mr. Walker needs to remember his tee time. Charlie Mann needs to sleep at the course next time. We are at Chaska on AUG 2. We need everyone whose handicap starts with a 3 or less to be available if we are going to move on. Last year we tied them at their course after losing to them at home so I know we can do it. Thanks to Tommie Smith for filling in at past the last minute.

What a comeback!! We beat Elk River at home today 28.5 to 7.5. Best team performance I have seen. No teams were swept and 9 of 12 won at least 2 points. We will be playing the Chaska Town Course on July 12 at home. We will be away on Aug 2. We lost a very close match with Chaska last year and I think with a good turnout we can prevail.

We are down 22.5 to 13.5 after todays fiasco, but the beer was good. we need a big comeback on June 7 at home. Those of you who are less than 4 on the handicap scale and don't anticipate going above 6 please let me know if you will be available on the 7th. those of you who are bubble boys I appreciate your patience and willingness to play. We need are best team possible to make up the points.

February 28, 2009
Hi everybody. I know its early and not many of you are thinking about golf yet, but I have nothing else in my life to do. The MPGA had their annual winter board meeting this morning at which the pairings for 24 man team come out. We are once again in class A. Some teams have moved up and down so at least the first round we will have new opponents: Elk River. They have moved down from AA and should be excellent competition. Richard Walker has consented or been coerced to be assistant captain this year. The dates for the first round which I would like everyone to save are May 3 and June 7. The consolation bracket has been eliminated this year, so we don't want to be "one and done". As always we will be looking for the 12 best 2-man teams we can put together. I hope all of our low handicap players will be returning this year and please invite all of your scratch golfer friends to join the mens club. If you have not previously participated and have an interest, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Well boys, here it is. Final match of 2008. Lets go out with a bang. We have been deserted by a number of our regulars. It gives some new people a chance to step up to the plate. As always there will be a $10 team skins game. I will need to leave immediately following my round. Dave Sack has graciously agreed to stick around and collect money and record the results. Please keep a card with your team best ball to turn in to Dave. We are down 3 points to Hiawatha, but we do have home field advantage. Play well.

Thanks to everyone who played today. We are only down 3 points to Hiawatha with a return match at Fox on sept. 28. We will need a good turnout to beat them for the consolation championship.( I think it would be a perfect weekend for college students to make a trip home and play some golf). The weather mostly cooperated, but the course played a little long. There were 5 skins: Jacobson -horvath 3 on 18, kostelecky -sicora 3 on 5 and 4 on 7, Halstrom -walker 3on 9and Cargill -Ferber a 3 on1. If you did not get your money, I will leave it in the pro shop.

September 4, 2008
We are at Hiawatha on Sunday. We will be back at home on sep. 28. This is the consolation championship. We are missing our college contingent plus a few others. We need everyone to step up and win points. Hiawatha did beat us a couple of years ago,so there is the revenge factor as well. Here is the line up.

7:40 John Hygrell and Tommy Smith
7:50 Scott Kostelecky and Joe Sicora
8:00 Tim Gomilak and Mark Peterson
8:07 Mike Manion and Tom Vandewalker

As usual we will have a skins game($10/team), please keep a card with your bestball score as well. I will be collecting when you come in unless you want to pay me ahead of time. Please confirm that you have received this e-mail and that you will be in attendance on Sunday.

August 3, 2008
Well boys, This is a first. Monticello literally can only come up with 2 players who are willing to come and take us on. Their captain is ashamed and apologizes. He is going to come and play on our fine course, but the match has been conceded and we are moving on to the next round on sep. 7.

July 13, 2008

Thanks to everyone who played today. We are ahead 24 -12. Monticello was missing several of their better players and I'm sure will be coming at us hard on aug 3 at home. Everyone whose handicap starts with a 3 or lower please keep aug 3 open. As usual the lowest 20 handicaps who are available will be playing plus 4 captains choices.

June 1, 2008
Once again thanks to everyone who played today. Special thanks to Dave Sack who as first alternate kept his schedule free in case of someone pulling up lame. We played well, fighting to an 18-18 tie at Chaska. Unfortunately we were down 3 going in and are now in the consolation bracket. Only 2 teams had sweeps, Kostelecky - Erickson and Vue - Halstrom, and 5 teams got shut out ( we won't name names in order to protect the innocent). Our next match will be July 13 most likely at Majestic Oaks, please keep your schedules free. we don't want to get beat and have to move down a bracket. As usual the final few spots will be determined by the most current handicap list in the week prior to july 13.

Those last few spots will be based on May 23 handicaps. Excellent debut's for 2 new members, Ray Serie and Kelvin Vue who both were part of 3 point sweeps.

April 24, 2008

Its a slow start to the new season but the 24 man team matches are about to get rolling. We are in Class A this year which has been shrunk to 8 teams. New this year is a consolation bracket, so we are guaranteed to be playing thru august. Our first match is with Chaska Town course on may 4 at home and on June 1 at Chaska. As in past years we are looking to field our best golfers. The cut last year typically fell around an index of 4.0. The lowest 20 handicaps who are available are guaranteed a spot, with the last 4 spots filled either by request from our best players or by "captains choice" . If there are any new Men's Club members, or old members who have not typically played but are now interested please let me know. Any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
